What Is a Ceramic Coating?

A ceramic coating is a semi-permanent, glass-like layer that bonds to your paint. It gives your car a show-car shine, makes water bead and roll off, and shields the paint from sun and grime for years on end. We prep the paint until it’s flawless, then lock that finish in.

A glass-like layer that bonds to your paint for years of gloss, easy washes, and protection from sun and grime. We prep it until it’s flawless, then lock it in.

Why Protection Matters

Sun, water, and road grime take a little shine every day the paint sits bare. A coating stops that.

Stop Sun Fade Before It’s Permanent

SoCal sun burns fade into bare paint, and washing won’t bring it back. Only a repaint fixes it, and that costs thousands. A ceramic coating takes the hit for years so your paint never has to.

Water Slides Right Off

Sprinklers, rain, morning dew: on coated paint it beads up and rolls away before it can leave spots. Washes get faster, easier, and further apart.

Nothing Sticks Like It Used To

Brake dust, bugs, sap, and grime sit on top of the coating instead of digging into your paint, so the car stays cleaner and wipes down without a fight.

Show-Car Gloss That Holds Its Value

A coated car keeps that deep, wet shine year after year, and glossy paint is the first thing a buyer notices.

Just picked it up?

The best day to coat a car is the day you get it.

New paint needs almost no correction, so the prep is short and the coating goes onto a finish that has never been swirled. You’re not undoing damage — you’re making sure there isn’t any.

The investment happened when you bought the car. This is how you keep it.

The Road to a Perfect Coating

A coating is only as good as the paint under it, so we earn the shine first

Step 1

Inspection & Deep Wash

We look over every panel, then give the car a careful three-bucket hand wash and full clean: wheels, paint, and everything bonded to it, so we’re working on truly bare, clean paint.

Step 2

Preparation

Before a drop of coating touches the car, we tape off every edge, trim, and rubber seal, then stage our pads and products. Then we run a test spot to dial in the exact pad-and-product combo that gives your paint the best possible finish.

Step 3

Paint Correction

Swirls, light scratches, and dullness get machine-polished out: wet sanding, compounding, and polishing where needed. The coating locks in whatever is under it, so we make sure what’s under it is flawless.

Step 4

The Coating Goes Down

With the paint perfected, we apply the coating panel by panel. Here’s exactly what goes down next.

What Goes Down

The coating: applied, leveled, and inspected like it’s our own car

Ceramic coating being applied with an applicator
Stage 1

Application

We work the coating over each polished surface with microfiber applicators in overlapping squares, so no spot gets missed.

Buffing and leveling the ceramic coating
Stage 2

Buffing

Once it flashes, we buff each panel to level the coating. Skip this and you get high spots and visible marks, so we never skip it.

Stage 3

Inspection

The car comes out into direct light for a full sun inspection. We check every panel so nothing leaves unbuffed.

Two layers. Crystal Serum Light goes down first: the hard, chemically resistant base that carries the seven-year warranty. EXO v5 goes over the top for the water behavior and the gloss. Peak durability and shine for people who keep their cars long-term.

Watch water and dirt give up

A coating changes the surface so water can’t grab on. Water beads up and rolls off, carrying loose dust and grime with it. Your car can still get dirty, but grime has a much harder time sticking, so washes get faster and easier.

A Written Warranty We Personally Honor

This warranty is our word, in writing. If the coating fails under normal care, we fix it or redo it.

The Studio Comes to You

A fully equipped detailing van with our own water and power. The 1 year and 3 year coatings happen in your driveway. The 7 year is a garage install, because the second layer needs shelter while it cures.

Pro-Grade Equipment, Enthusiast Pride

We run professional-grade equipment and premium Gyeon and Gtechniq chemicals on every coating. Cheap products fade fast and drag a finish down, so we skip them.

Straight answers

What no one tells you

A ceramic coating will not stop rock chips. It is one to three microns thick, and paint protection film is around two hundred. Anyone promising impact protection from a coating is overselling you.

What it does is everything else. Deeper gloss and richer color, real chemical protection against bugs, bird droppings and water spotting, and washing that takes about half as long because dirt stops bonding to the surface. On the right car it is the best value protection we offer, and it comes with a written warranty.

The finish you end up with comes from the prep more than the product. Four years and more than a thousand cars have taught me that coatings fail from rushed prep far more often than from the product, so your paint gets corrected first, every time. Swirls and etching come out under the machine, then the coating locks in a finish that is actually worth keeping.

It also is not right for every car. If yours is not a good candidate, we will tell you that before you spend the money, not after.

The comparison people actually make

Detail, seal, or coat. What is the actual difference?

All three are worth doing. They just do different jobs at different prices.

You should definitely book an appointment! I got the clay and seal package, and the outside looked amazing. They did a great job on the inside too. Everything was perfect. They really took their time to make sure everything looked brand new.

Professional, amazing service, and great prices. You can't ask for much when you need a last minute appointment right before a road trip, but Jaycen was able to squeeze me in and knock it out of the park. The guys even showed up early and knocked out a clay bar, seal, and even got rid of a pesky scratch in record time. My car looked like it rolled out of the dealership again. Amazing work!

Automotive Aptitude took care of my and my roommate's car. After they were done, both vehicles were soooo clean! I did a couple of other quotes for a few different places. Out of the 6 that I contacted, they were the most affordable and provided the most amount of services. One thing to note is that you will need a hose or water source for them to connect to so they can wash your car. Interior shampoo for two cars and a scratch removal for one took about 4 hours. They were really responsive and did a great job with both vehicles. We would reach out to them again when we need our cars cleaned.

Ceramic Coating FAQ

How much does ceramic coating cost?
Packages start at $800 for the 1-year coating, $900 for the 3-year, and $1,600 for the 7-year two-layer. Larger vehicles run a bit more. Every package includes full prep and paint polishing.
How long does it take to install?
Usually 1–2 days depending on the paint’s condition and the level of correction needed. We do it all at your location.
How long does a ceramic coating actually last?
1 to 7 years depending on the coating you choose. Every coating comes with a written warranty and included inspections to keep it performing.
Is ceramic coating better than wax?
Yes — wax lasts weeks, our sealant lasts months, and a ceramic coating lasts years with stronger gloss, easier washes, and real UV protection.
Does my car need paint correction before a coating?
On anything that is not brand new, yes — and it is included in all three tiers. A coating locks in the surface it goes onto, so swirls under a coating stay there for the life of the coating. That inclusion is most of the difference between a $180 Clay 'n Seal and an $800 coating.
Can a ceramic coating remove swirl marks?
No. A coating goes over your paint and locks in whatever is underneath, swirls included. That is why correction comes first and coating second. A coating over unpolished paint seals the damage in for years.
Ceramic coating or Clay 'n Seal — which do I need?
Clay 'n Seal ($180–$240) pulls the bonded grit out of your paint and seals it, and holds 5–7 months. A ceramic coating ($800 and up) includes the paint correction and holds one to seven years. If your paint is in decent shape and you want it to feel clean and smooth again, Clay 'n Seal. If you want the swirls gone and kept gone, coating.
Can a ceramic coating be taken off?
Yes, but by polishing it off — machine work, not a chemical. Worth knowing before you commit to seven years.
How should I wash my car once it is coated?

Two buckets, a clean mitt, and a pH-neutral soap — and no automatic washes. The brushes in a tunnel are what put the swirls in that the correction just took out, and a coating will not save your paint from them. Dry with a clean drying towel rather than letting it air-dry, or you will spot the finish you just paid for.

The one date that matters: your first Ceramic Maintenance wash and inspection is due within 90 days of installation, and booking it is what keeps your warranty eligibility intact. That is Coating Care Maintenance — $120, same price whatever you drive. If you are on the 7-year Crystal Serum Light + EXO v5, a $75 maintenance wash every three months is included as a benefit of that tier.

After that, washing it yourself between visits is fine and expected. The coating makes it easier, not unnecessary.

Do I still have to wash a coated car?
Yes — a coating makes dirt let go more easily, it does not stop dirt landing. What changes is effort, not frequency. Most coated cars wash in half the time and hold the result far longer.
