Why does the paint feel rough after a wash?
You wash the car in the driveway off Telegraph, dry it properly, and it still feels like fine sandpaper when you run a hand across the roof. It looks clean. It does not feel clean.
That texture is fallout, not dirt. Industrial air carries fine metal particles, and Santa Fe Springs has more of it in the air than most places we work. Rail, trucking and the yards along Slauson all put it up, and it lands hot enough to embed.
Washing will never fix that. Soap only reaches what is sitting on the surface. Anything that has keyed into the clear coat stays put and starts to rust in place, and on lighter cars that turns into orange speckling across the hood and roof.
So we decontaminate before anything else. An iron remover dissolves what is embedded, a clay pass lifts the rest, and only then is the paint actually smooth. Correcting or protecting a rough surface is wasted work.

That is the difference between a fifteen dollar tunnel and what we do. Not whether the dirt came off, but whether the paint is actually smooth afterwards.
Most weeks we are somewhere between Heritage Park and the yards off Slauson, working in a driveway, a lot or a space at the curb. Work vehicles get the same process as personal ones, and the water and power ride with us either way.
A coating is the service that pays for itself fastest around industry. Fallout lands on the coating instead of the clear coat, so it comes off instead of embedding. If the paint already feels rough, decontamination comes first.

I am Jaycen. I run Automotive Aptitude out of Cerritos, about ten minutes up Norwalk Boulevard, and after four years and over a thousand cars I still do the work myself.
Santa Fe Springs is the closest thing I have to a test case for fallout. Half the cars I see here feel rough before they look dirty, and that is a decontamination job rather than a wash.
I am insured and happy to show the certificate. At the end we walk the car together and you tell me if anything is off before I load up.

My paint feels rough even after a wash. What is that?
Embedded fallout. Fine metal particles that have keyed into the clear coat rather than sitting on it. No wash will reach them. Decontamination will, and you can feel the difference straight away.
What do most people here book?
The full detail, from $150, because the decontamination is part of it. That is usually the step the car has been missing.
Do you work on work trucks and fleet vehicles?
Yes, same process as anything else. If there is room to park them we can do more than one in a visit, so tell us how many when you book.
What are the orange specks on my light-coloured car?
Embedded iron rusting inside the clear coat. An iron remover dissolves it and a clay pass takes what is left, and it is included rather than charged as an extra.
Will a ceramic coating stop the fallout?
Not from landing, but it stops it embedding. On a coated car it sits on the surface and comes off. Coatings start at $800 and include paint correction first.
Do you need my water and power?
No. The van carries both, so all we need is room to park beside the car.
How long does it take?
An exterior detail is about an hour. A full detail is longer and a ceramic coating is a full day. We confirm the exact window when you book.
