Original paint deserves a lighter touch
Plenty of cars around the Circle and the streets off Chapman are older than their owners’ mortgages. Original paint, single-stage on some of them, and thinner than anything a modern car wears.
Old paint does not forgive. A modern clear coat can take an aggressive polish. A survivor from the eighties cannot. Treat them the same way and you burn through decades of character in an afternoon.
A tunnel wash is the worst place for it. Stiff brushes and harsh soap drag across paint that has no clear coat to sacrifice. Whatever shine is left goes with it.
So we measure first and work gently. We check what the car is actually wearing, wash by hand, and polish only as much as the paint can give. The goal is keeping what is original, not grinding it flat.

The math
Old paint economics
On an original-paint car, the math flips. You are not protecting shine you can re-buy, you are protecting paint that cannot be replaced at any price. Gentle care once a season costs less than one over-aggressive polish costs forever.
The one-year coating is $800. The seven-year is $1,600 and works out to about $19 a month. Kept nice once beats fixed twice, and the longest option is the cheapest one to own.
Every coating includes fixing the paint first, because a coating locks in whatever is under it.

Questions that matter more on an older car
Around Old Towne, the wrong detailer does more damage in an afternoon than ten years of driving. Two questions protect you.
Ask if they are insured. We are, and we will show you the certificate before we start. Ask what happens at the end. Here, we walk the car together in daylight and you point at anything that looks off before we pack up.
And you do not have to book to ask. Most messages get an answer within a few hours, and there is no rush on your end.

Do you come out to Orange?
Yes, most weeks. It is about twenty-five minutes from the shop in Cerritos and there is no travel charge inside the service area. Call or text (562) 445-1457.
My car is older with original paint. Is machine polishing safe?
Only with a light hand, which is exactly how we work on them. We check what the car is wearing before anything touches it, and on a thin survivor we polish less rather than more. Keeping original paint alive is the whole point.
What do most people here book?
The full detail, from $150. On the older cars it is usually a gentle decontamination and a careful interior rather than heavy polishing.
Can you ceramic coat an older car?
If the paint is healthy, yes. A coating on a well-kept classic locks in the shine it has. If the paint is tired we talk about what it can take first, honestly.
Do you use the same products on a classic interior?
The process bends to the car. Older leather, real metal trim and painted dashboards get gentler chemistry and more hand work than a modern cabin.
Do you need my water and power?
No. The van carries both, so an older house with a tricky spigot changes nothing.
Can you do it while I am at work?
Yes, and most people do it that way. Leave the keys, we text you when it is done, and we walk the car together if you are back in time.
How long does it take?
An exterior detail is about an hour. A full detail is longer and a ceramic coating is a full day. We confirm the exact window when you book.
